Gel crystals and flowersGel Crystals

These are clear crystals which swell up when put into contact with water. They are designed to be used in hanging baskets, plant pots and also borders. Simply mix up with dry soil when planting your flowers and shrubs, then when you water, the crystals will expand in the soil. They will retain the moisture and reduce the need for watering.

These are devices which reach from your bath or shower tray down to your garden. They use siphon suction to channel the water down the connecting hose. They do not use electricity but rely on natural suction.
Drill PumpDrill Pumps

You can buy add-ons for your power drill which allow you to pump grey water to your lawn. Using the power from the drill, these click-on devices draw water through a hose from a fixed source, such as a bath or sink, using the power of suction.
Water ButtWater Butts

The ever-popular waterbutt is probably the easiest way to collect water from your roof and guttering after rainfall. Kits can be bought at any good garden centre and DIY store. They sit outside your house and collect the rainwater which runs down your guttering. You can also buy motorised pumps which can transfer the water out of the butt through a hose connection to make watering your garden easier.
