Metering

Three Valleys Water believes metering is the fairest way to manage long-term demand and promote sustainable water consumption. Our studies show that having a meter reduces water demand by 12% and helps to balance out peak demand.

Water meter head We are extending our metering programmes (both optional and change of occupier), in order to help balance peak demand and encourage responsible water use. Our target is to have 44,000 domestic properties with a meter by 2010.

Since 1990 all newly constructed homes have been metered. In addition, Three Valleys Water operates a programme of metering all properties which have a change of occupier, which has throughout our supply area. Council owned and commercial properties are excluded from this scheme.

We have a capped bill scheme called "WaterSure" to protect vulnerable customers who have a meter. Please click here to find out more about the WaterSure scheme.
All premises using a sprinkler, hosepipe or any other garden watering apparatus, unless held in the hand at all times, or properties with a swimming pool or pond with a capacity greater than 10,000 litres must have a meter installed to ensure they pay for the water they use.
