Three Valleys Water receives environmental hero award
Local tap water supplier Three Valleys Water has been presented with a Green Heroes 2008 Wall Shield in recognition of their environmental and water efficiency ‘Go Green with Shrek’ campaign, which they managed on behalf of the ‘Water in the South East’ group.
The trophy was presented by top botanist and TV personality Professor David Bellamy OBE, at the Tower of London.
The shields are awarded annually in recognition of companies, councils and communities carrying out projects that enhance and raise awareness of protecting the environment, that they wish to share with the world.
The judges commented: “during the drought in 2005/6 WISE was formed and is made up from seven water companies in the South East of England, the Environment Agency, NGO Waterwise and the Consumer Council for Water. They successfully promoted water saving using characters from the “Shrek the Third’ movie. The campaign brought water saving messages to families and children in a fun and innovative way. This has helped make a memorable message for all age groups.”
The award winning project will be featured in the next Green Book; the world’s only work of reference on environmental best practice, and they also won a Gold ‘Green Apple’ award presented to them at the House of Commons in November at a special prize giving ceremony.
The Green Apple Awards are run by The Green Organisation, an independent, non political, non-profit organisation that recognises, rewards and promotes environmental best practice around the world.
National organiser, Roger Wolens, commented: “organisations that go the extra mile and become Green Heroes are demonstrating a serious commitment to the world around them. They invest in a better future for us all and deserve to be recognised for their efforts.”
