Speeding ahead at 400 km
Local water company, Three Valleys Water, along with its contractors Balfour Beatty Utility Solutions, Enterprise PLC, M Holleran Ltd and Mace Group took a short time-out to celebrate replacing 400 kilometres of water mains in the last three years.
Thomas Enright, Client Project Manager for Three Valleys Water said: “We’re investing £100 million between 2005-2009 to replace the oldest parts of our water mains infrastructure. We’re very much aware that working in local areas to carry out these essential works can be disruptive both to local residents and commuters but this work is critical to ensuring that we can continue to supply top quality drinking water to our 3 million customers 24 hours a day.”
“In many of the areas that we’re working our water pipes can be up to 70 years old and often cause disruption through burst mains and interruptions to supply. By replacing the old cast iron pipes with new, more flexible plastic pipes we aim to provide an improved service to our customers for many years to come.”
Three Valleys Water plans to continue with this pace of work over the next few years to continue to drive down the level of leakage across its 14,500 kilometres water mains network, which laid end to end would stretch from the UK to Australia.

Working together to improve the water mains network - Mark Critcher (Balfour Beatty Utility Solutions), Steve Squire (Enterprise plc), Jim Reeve (M Holleran), Paul Wallis (Mace) and Thomas Enright (Three Valleys Water)
