Looking after our City

Two pupils from Field End Junior School, Ruislip have won the chance to treat all their class mates to a great day out, sponsored by Three Valleys Water. Presented with the challenge of expressing their own vision to keep London green and make their city a better place to live, they came up trumps and will now be taking their whole class to the Natural History Museum in London.

Ten year old, Georgia Morrison and Billie Urwin from Field End Junior School, wrote a story from their city’s point of view expressing how the people that live and work there can make it a better place to live.

“Hire out bikes”, “park your car outside the City,” “keep it green” are some of the messages included in their article and illustration.

Their story was selected as the winner in the Three Valleys Water “Cities Around the World” competition.

Ted Casey, Education Manager at Three Valleys Water said: “Each year we work with around 20,000 school children, teaching them about water, where it comes from and why it’s important to look after this essential resource. It’s great to see the ideas that children have for making their city a better place to live and I hope that Georgia and Billie will really enjoy their trip to

the Natural History Museum. We will also be working with the school to show the children how they can save water both at school and in the home.

Sheila Pikulski, Head Teacher, Field End Junior School said; ”I’m absolutely delighted for the girls. I was very impressed with their work – not just the finished piece but the background thought and research that they had to put in before their final draft. As a school, we are keen to promote “green” issues and this competition really gave our Year 5 children, a chance to focus on the environment in our capital city. Obviously, having a winning entry has raised the profile across the school, which can only be of benefit to everyone. We are very proud and extremely excited!”
