Three Valleys staff 'Give an Hour' this World Water Week
This week is the United Nations World Water Week and to mark it, Three Valleys Water staff are supporting WaterAid’s national campaign ‘Give an Hour’.
“The ‘Give an hour’ campaign gives staff an opportunity to help change a life with just an hour of their salary. It’s processed though our payroll system and couldn’t be easier,” said Jeff Bishop, Operations Director, who supports the Three Valleys Water, WaterAid committee.
WaterAid works with the poorest and most vulnerable people in the developing world to help provide themselves with a lasting supply of safe water, sanitation and hygiene education. Clean water is the first step out of poverty for so many and WaterAid, with help from supporters, has assisted more than eleven million people since the charity was created over 25 years ago. But there is still a long way to go. It’s a sad fact that while people in the Western World take the provision of clean, safe water provided in their home forgranted, one out of every six people in the world don’t have access to clean, safe water. Over five thousand children die every single day from water-related diseases that are easily preventable.
2008 is also the International Year of Sanitation, so on 22 March 2008, World Water Day, people around the world will reflect on the fact that over 2.6 billion people still lack basic sanitation.
