New water mains for Surrey
Work to replace ageing water mains that are at risk of bursting has started in the Hook Heath area of Woking. Three Valleys Water is investing £652,000 to upgrade the network of underground pipes which carry fresh tap water to the homes of local people 24 hours a day.
Jeff Bishop, Operations Director of Three Valleys Water, said: “This water mains renewal scheme is part of a much larger investment programme to maintain and renew our underground pipe network and provide a reliable water supply to our customers. Without this investment the mains would continue to deteriorate, causing bursts, leaks and disruption to the local community. We are working closely with Surrey County Council Highways Authority to coordinate the works.”
The existing water mains are 80 years old and made out of cast iron, they will be replaced with more flexible plastic pipes.
The work is being carried out on behalf of Three Valleys Water by our contractor, Balfour Beatty Solutions Limited and will affect the following streets: Cavendish Road, Triggs Lane, Birch Close, College lane, Cinder Patch, Wych Hill, Hook Heath Road, Pine Road, Wych Hill Rise, Fernhill Park, Jackman’s Lane, St Johns Hill Road and Barricane. With no major complications the scheme should be complete by the end of February 2008.
All residents affected will be contacted by Three Valleys Water in advance of the work in their street and throughout the scheme. Vulnerable and elderly customers are also being encouraged to notify the company of their special needs by registering on the Safeguard Scheme by applying online or contacting our Customer Contact Centre on 0845 782 3333.
Works are already underway and progressing well in the Sheerwater area of Woking, West Clandon, Addlestone and Guildford, and the programme for a new scheme in East Horsley is just being finalised.
