Shrek the Third turns green to gold

Shrek the Third, Donkey and Puss in Boots triumphed once again but this time with Three Valleys Water after they received a ‘Gold’ Green Apple Award from David Bellamy at the House of Commons on Friday 9 November 2007.

Three Valleys Water teamed up with Paramount Pictures and seven other water companies in the South East of England (known as ‘Water in the South East), the Environment Agency, Consumer Council for Water, Waterwise and Water UK to promote positive environmental messages to water customers in the South East of England.

Andy Smith, Managing Director, Three Valleys Water said: “We’re delighted to have collectively won this award. By teaming up with Paramount Pictures and the Shrek the Third characters it gave us a unique opportunity to promote a respect and caring attitude towards w ater in a fun way. Shrek, Donkey and Puss in Boots helped us get across the message of ‘reduce, reuse, recycle’ to children and families. It’s important that our future generations learn at an early age how precious water is and why they must do their best not to waste it”

The Shrek the Third waterwise campaign was launched at the same time as the movie and involved direct communications with customers, posters and bookmarks for schools and the chance to win a family holiday in a castle in Ireland which was promoted through the partner websites. The big, green loveable ogre had some simple, Shrek tastic tips like using rainwater from a water butt for the garden, turning off the tap while you’re cleaning your teeth and taking a shorter shower – all can do wonders for the environment.

The 12 organisations promoting the campaign were: Three Valleys Water, Southern Water, South East Water, Mid Kent Water, Portsmouth Water, Sutton & East Surrey Water, Folkestone & Dover Water, Anglian Water, The Environment Agency, Waterwise, Consumer Council for Water and Water UK.
