Spotlight on water
Sixth form students at Hitchin Girls School got the chance to put the spotlight on local water company, Three Valleys Water, when they had a visit from Sally Howe from Three Valleys Water Public Relations Team. The GCSE ‘A’ level science group got an overview of the company and its future challenges as well as an insight into health and safety within the industry and the whole array of science involved in taking water from its source to the customer’s tap.
Alison Salmon, Biology Teacher at Hitchin Girls School said: “As a school community we are keen to promote a respect for and awareness of our local and global environment, water is an essential resource but one that’s easy to take forgranted. It was really interesting to hear directly from Three Valleys Water about the issues they face to manage the future supply/demand balance of water.”
“Our science students were able to see how the subjects they are taught in the classroom are used in real life business within areas such as the water treatment process, pumping water around the water mains network, construction of water storage facilities such as reservoirs and water towers and carrying out tests on water quality.”
If you would like a Three Valleys Water’ speaker to come along to your local group please contact Sue Lashley on 01707 277110.
