Vaughan School go water wise
Are you water wise? School children from Vaughan School, Harrow were able to answer this question after they visited the Environment and Education centre at Three Valleys Water recently.
Over 60 children took part in an education day with Three Valleys Water to learn more about the amount of water they use and how they can get into water-friendly habits, as well as learning more about wildlife in rivers.
“During the day, the pupils carried out a number of river-based experiments and then visited the Three Valleys Water education centre to learn about the journey of water from its source to the customer’s tap and examine the water cycle. It is part of our efforts to promote water efficiency in its widest sense,” said Ted Casey, Education Services Manager at Three Valleys Water.
At lunchtime the pupils also took part in the “Lunchbox challenge” to see how environmentally aware the class is. The pupils divided the leftovers into piles of reusable, recyclable and composting materials and the remaining waste was weighed.
Class teacher, Mrs Sue Upcott said: “We actively encourage the children to take responsibility for looking after the environment and since our last visit to the Centre we have been inspired to set up composting of fruit waste which is then used on the school allotment. We welcome the opportunity to work in partnership with local businesses such as Three Valleys Water to provide a valuable hands-on experience to our pupils.”
