Dean's fishing tournament raises £300 for WaterAid

Local man, Dean Valentine, a Field Technician at Three Valleys Water recently put his own and his colleagues fishing skills to the test to raise money for WaterAid, a charity dedicated to help the world’s poorest people gain access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene education.

Dean, who runs the Sports and Social Fishing club at Three Valleys Water brought colleagues together for a two day tournament at Inns Lake in Rickmansworth to see who could catch the most weight in fish and in doing so raised £300 thanks to the contribution of fishing goods for a raffle from local tackle shops in the area (Ultimate Angling in Hitchin, Old Town Angling in Hemel Hempstead and Queensway Angling).

“I’m really pleased to be able to donate this money to WaterAid, which was raised at an event where everyone had a great time” said Dean.

“This is a great contribution to our charity and it’s heart warming to see people like Dean wanting to do their bit to raise money for us; it makes a real difference to people’s lives” said Harriet De Bene of WaterAid.

How money raised for WaterAid is spent:

  • £5 can pay for a bag of cement to build a latrine slab
  • £15 is enough to give one person a lasting supply of safe water, sanitation and hygiene education.
  • £25 can be used to pay for a mason to protect a spring
  • £50 is enough for two days of hygiene education training for a village
  • £100 could pay a mason to build a hand-dug well
  • £150 can pay to train two community members to maintain their village water supplies
  • £200 could buy a locally built rope pump
  • £385 could pay for a school sanitation block for 150 boys and girls
