Cheers from Home-Start

Home-Start Borehamwood & District were cheering this week when they received a donation of £500 from local water company, Three Valleys Water and Mayor of Hertsmere, Councillor Martin Saunders.

Councillor Saunders said; “Three Valleys Water approached me to put forward a local organisation I felt would benefit from their community support programme. I was delighted to put forward Home-Start in Borehamwood. This organisation offers support to any family with young children under 5 and really needs help with funding to continue to offer this service to the community.”

Malai Srinivasa , Graduate Engineer, Three Valleys Water added; “One of the criteria of our community support programme is to help improve the quality of our customer’s lives, Home-Start certainly fits the bill and we are pleased to be able to lend our support.”

Bridget Shaw, Senior Co-ordinator said; “The Home-Start schemes need funding to maintain and develop our work with families.” This donation will go towards training future volunteers on our Preparation Course. Volunteers visit families who require support for many reasons including: post natal depression, loneliness, multiple births, housing and financial difficulties.

If you have parenting experience, good listening skills and understand confidentiality then you maybe interested in becoming a Home-Start volunteer. We welcome volunteers of all ages, backgrounds and gender. Potential volunteers can come from any walk of life, but must have children of their own, so that they can relate to their families' stresses and strains.

For further information on volunteering please contact: Bridget Shaw/Eileen Brunt on 020 8953 5082 or e-mail: admin@home-startbw.org.uk.

The next Preparation Course starts in January 10.00 am - 2.30 pm one day each week for 10 weeks.
