What causes high water pressure?
High water pressure is very rare. However, occasionally high pressure can occur in some parts of the water supply network. This can be seen in many ways, such as a strong spurt of water when the cold tap is running.
High water pressure is usually caused by work being carried out in the water supply network. This is normally either general maintenance or the re-configuring of the water supply system.
The main causes of high water pressure are:
|
| 1. |
Maintenance work
If, due to maintenance work, you have had an interruption to your water supply, there may be air trapped in your water pipes. This can temporarily increase water pressure. Simply run your taps for a few minutes to release this air. |
|
|
| 2. |
Re-configuring the water supply network
When the water supply network is re-configured, this can cause changes in water pressure. Re-configuring is when water is moved round to wherever it is needed, sometimes changing the supply route.
As this is usually a temporary effect, your normal supply will be returned very quickly in most cases. |

You've just moved to the area
If you are new to the area, your water pressure may feel higher than you are used to. |
