What powers
do Three Valleys Water have to insist I have
a water meter? |
| |
The Water
Industry Act 1991, Section 144B, subsection
2(b) provides powers for water companies to
meter properties where there has been a change
of occupier. The Government, Ofwat and the Consumer Council for Water
all support our approach. Click
here for further details. |
 |
| 2. |
Why didn't
I know about this? |
| |
We have taken the following steps to make
customers aware:
|
| |
 |
Messages have been included
in the leaflet we send to all customers with
their bills. |
| |
 |
All customers receive
a pack advising that we intend to install
a meter when they move into their new home.
|
| |
 |
All local Estate Agents
and Solicitors have been contacted and advised
|
| |
 |
If a water search is
carried out by your solicitor we will confirm
our intention to install a meter. |
 |
| 3. |
Who will
pay for the installation? |
| |
Three Valleys
Water will pay for the full cost of the installation. |
 |
| 4. |
Can I
choose the meter location? |
| |
We will install
the meter in the most cost-effective location,
often in the soft ground in your garden and
will reinstate the ground accordingly. If
you have strong objections to this we will
consider an alternative location but may ask
you to contribute to any extra cost. |
 |
| 5. |
Can I
revert to unmeasured charges? |
| |
We regret
there is no option to revert to unmeasured
charges. |
 |
| 6. |
How big
will the hole be? |
| |
Usually it
is about 1m x 1m, and the area will be properly
reinstated within 3 days. |
 |
| 7. |
Do I need
to be home when the work takes place? |
| |
There is no need for you to be home for
the installation. Once we have finished
the work, we will post some details through
your letterbox detailing what to do next.
