| Step 3: Check for unexpected usage |
| Check for unexpected overnight usage |
| During the night your water consumption should be very low and possibly zero. Make sure that no appliance will be operating during the night and if necessary turn it off. Take a meter reading (see step 2) before going to bed and then again first thing in the morning before any water is used. |
| Compare the two readings - if the readings are different by more than 10 litres, then you should investigate the possibility of a leak or faulty appliance such as a plumbed in overflow, or that you have failed to turn off an appliance, e.g. water softener. For advice on how to test for a leak follow the tests in step 4.
| If a nightly meter reading check indicates no problems then please follow step 6 to see what other reasons might be the cause of your high water consumption.
