Eco Schools

The Eco-Schools Scheme is designed to encourage and support schools in becoming aware of their impact on the environment and how they can create solutions to issues such as litter, water use and energy efficiency. An information pack containing lots of information is available when you register with the scheme. Visit their website at www.eco-schools.org.uk.
Cedars Infant School in Harrow, recently gained their Bronze Level Eco-Schools status after a visit from a member of the Environment and Education Centre team. A thorough water audit of the school was carried out by children from one class. This involved them surveying taps, radiators, toilets throughout the school, looking for leaks and other signs of water wastage. They also found out how much water is lost from just one dripping tap, calculated how much this cost the school over the period of a year and put a proposal to the Headteacher about how money and water could be saved. The formation of a working party, the audit and the presentation of the results gained the school their Award. They are now planning to work towards the Silver Level.
The Environment and Education Centre team at Three Valleys Water are keen to support schools with this Award by leading Water Audits in schools.
