General Business Graduates

What attracted me to the Three Valleys Water Graduate Programme was the scope of exposure to all core business areas within the company. I studied Geography at The University of Nottingham, and with such a broad degree subject, I was uncertain of what area of business I wished to pursue as a career. The structure of the programme with 6 months in each business area was therefore very appealing.

My first placement is in Finance which I have enjoyed and have learnt a great deal from. The main area I am placed in is Financial Reporting and Systems. I have had to quickly learn both technical and transferable skills to complete my objectives for the placement which has strengthened my business acumen already. It is also very rewarding, the responsibility given to us from day one and how we have an impact on the business so early on. Overall, I have thoroughly enjoyed my first placement and the friendly atmosphere at Three Valleys Water. I look forward to being a part of the company’s development at this exciting time.

The TVW Business Graduate Scheme gives you a unique opportunity to learn about the key areas within the business. In each department you are given ‘live’ projects in which you take full responsibility for delivering your set objectives. The nature of this work means you are quickly exposed to many areas of the business and colleagues on all levels.

You also take full responsibility for your own development and there are a vast range of training courses available to help you develop quickly to be able to meet the standards expected. This is an exciting Graduate Scheme to be involved in where you are encouraged and helped whilst being questioned and challenged on a daily basis in a real business environment.

Technical Programme Graduates
Patricia Ferrere

My first placement on the Technical Graduate Programme is within the Production and Supply Department. With a Master's degree in Chemical Engineering from ESCOM University, France and previous work experience in water treatment research, I felt well prepared to work directly at the heart of Three Valleys Water's business. As part of the Production team I am involved in a variety of different projects linked to the optimization of water treatment processes. This gives me the opportunity to put into practice what I have learnt but also to extend my knowledge in this field.

I am enjoying my time at TVW and I think that the Graduate programme is a valuable experience for my future career. By completing 6 consecutive placements in different departments of the company, it not only gives a good insight into the water industry business but it also allows working in a challenging context where there is always something new to learn. In order to help us develop new skills, TVW also provides a wide range of training and development alongside regular individual performance reviews.

I am on the three year Technical Graduate Programme and I have found the last three months exciting and challenging. The company embraces the graduate scheme and I quickly felt part of the company. The scheme itself is well organised with objectives and competency steps set and frequent review meeting held to assess your progress. As a graduate you are given an element of responsibility to manage yourself and your project, with support from your line manager and mentor.

I have also had the opportunity to receive extensive training which is part of my continuing development. The graduate scheme with TVW is rewarding in terms of the people you meet and the chance to make a worthwhile contribution to an already successful company.

I was attracted to the graduate scheme at Three Valleys Water because of the varied placements on offer throughout the company. I am working towards CEng status and TVW is extremely supportive, both financially and in providing mentors for the professional development required.

My first placement in the Network and Leakage Strategy team within the Asset Management department has me working on varied and exciting projects, including working on a mechanical model to predict the state of the network and a statistical analysis of the minimum night flows with respect to various other variables. Another of my projects is on a meter deterioration model which involves correspondence with colleagues from Veolia Eau in Paris, including meetings in Paris and London. In my first few months with TVW I have learnt more than I thought possible and have been fully supported throughout by all the colleagues I have worked with, answering any questions I have and taking the time to make me feel at home, with my projects and the company.

The TVW Graduate Programme gives you the opportunity to get involved in a range of projects and gain an overview of the water industry and the business by moving every 6 months to a different department of the company. Hopefully, by the end of the scheme we will have gained a good overview of how the business works.

During my first placement in Programme Management I have worked on the company’s capital investment programme, developed my skills through a number of training courses that the company provides and participated in workshops & meetings, which have helped me to make many contacts with people from different departments within the company as well as with the external contractors. All my colleagues have given me guidance, interesting projects to work on, supported me and shared their knowledge.

I have really enjoyed my first placement in Network Services and I feel completely settled within my department. I have been challenged with some difficult projects, but have appreciated the opportunity they have given me for development. In particular my Tracker Project has allowed me to get out of the office and network across the business. As a result I have been able to liaise will all different types of departments and meet with a varied mix of people.

The graduate scheme is great starting point within TVW as it offers such a wide range of opportunities, which will hopefully lead to a successful future here.
