Q8. Will I have to pay for any water lost through a leak or faulty equipment?

Your water meter is positioned where the water enters your property. If a leak occurs before the water passes through your water meter, then your meter will not register an increase, but if a leak occurs after the water meter, then you may be charged for this water.

If you act promptly to inform us of the leak and have it repaired, allowance may be made for the costs of the additional water that has been lost because of the leak.

Apart from the obvious presence of water where it shouldn't be, there are a number of pointers that you can look out for which might indicate that there is a leak on the water supply pipes to your property. Click here for more information about leaks.

If you do find there is a leak then, according to where the leak is, you can contact either us, or your own plumber. We will be happy to come out to investigate. However, if the leak is on pipes that are your responsibility then you may be charged. Click here to see a diagram of who is responsible for the pipes supplying water to your property.
